About Art Appreciation (VA47 Autumn)
Have an interest in art history but not sure where to get started? This project-based course will inspire your creative thinking of art history and develop your art skills in painting drawing and mixed-media.
What will you learn on this course?
Develop your practical art skills whilst gaining a better understanding of art history. Projects will focus on learning and researching about a particular artist, their style and techniques or a movement of art history. Topics will vary form term to term to cover a broad array of subjects.
Taking inspiration from your research, you will then work on developing a range of paintings, drawing or mixed media pieces, using skills that relate to relevant topics to gain a better understanding of techniques and concepts.
The tutor will provide visuals, lead group discussion and deliver demonstrations relevant to the project. You will be supported by1-2-1 teaching to help you achieve your personal aims. You will be encouraged to interpret the projects in your own way, informing your ideas with appropriate research between classes to broaden the scope of your art works.
On completion, students will have completed a series of works and a sketchbook full of research, visual references, notes, samples and photographs.
You will have gained confidence and skills in researching artists within art history and be inspired to produce your own body of work unique to your personal style. This is a fun, friendly, creative class of likeminded people.
