About Creating Art In Context (VA43 Spring)
A practical art class that encourages deeper research into an artist or an artistic subject, theme or movement that will inspire your creative thinking and develop your painting, drawing, and mixed media skills.
What will you learn on this course?
Develop your practical art skills while gaining a better understanding of art history through this project-based programme of classes. The projects will focus on developing a range of painting and drawing skills through studying an artist, style, or movement in art history. While themes may vary from term to term, there will be an emphasis on discussion and research into the history and context of the project theme.
You will be encouraged to (share the artistic and historical) undertake further research that you have undertaken in an informal setting to inform and broaden the scope of your artwork (projects). There is a whole group review at the end of term and you will have the chance to learn from your peers.
The course will begin with group discussions and demonstrations relevant to the project. Subsequent teaching will be one-to-one with students guided according to their own level of experience to help them to achieve their personal aims. You will be encouraged to interpret the projects in your own way, informing your ideas with appropriate research.
Depending on the project emphasis, students will usually complete several paintings and have supporting drawings, paintings, photographs, and research in their sketchbook and folder. You can expect to have gained skills and confidence in painting and drawing and enjoyed working in a friendly, lively class of like-minded people.
