A cross stitch that reads 'They tried to bury us. They didn't realise we were seeds'

About Picking at the Stitches: Creative Artivism (ASC98)

Art changes people, and people change the world”

Spend a day with likeminded creatives, exploring the power of the stitch to make changes in the world.

What will you learn on this course?

Jane Thakoordin, textile artist and activist, will gently lead us through a day of craftivism and artivism, responding to the themes in Su Richardson's exhibition.

As a pioneer of British feminist art, Richardson’s work frequently subverts stereotypes and challenges the idea that craft is a less important art practice.

Using mixed media and textiles, we will create badges and small banners that reflect our values and principles. Share conversation and discussion while using craft as a medium for expression. Learn or develop your techniques in embroidery, including lettering and simple crochet.

The workshop will include a guided visit to the exhibition as a starting point for inspiration.
