Draw, Paint, Print (VA104 Summer)

Develop your creative skills through a range of drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques. This will enable you to explore the qualities of various materials and processes whilst creating and developing a small body of work. 

What will you learn on this course?

During this course, you will be encouraged to make initial drawings using your own preferred subject matter, using a variety of materials to record from observation, secondary source material or imagination. These drawings will be used to inform the other work you create. 

They’ll be the opportunity to develop your initial drawings with painting mediums, focussing on elements such as scale, colour, composition, and surface-qualities. You will then select a printmaking process (dry point or collagraph) that is most suitable to your work, to develop into a final print.

The course will offer one to one facilitation to help develop your individual skills and the confidence to experiment with materials. Participants will be encouraged to develop their own individual projects. The tutor will tailor guidance to your level of experience. 

On completing this course, you will have gained an understanding of how work can be developed from initial ideas into resolved pieces of creative work. You will have produced a small portfolio of practical work including drawings, paintings and prints. 

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to students of all levels, including beginners with no prior experience and improvers who are looking to refine their skills.

Do you need to bring anything?

For drawing exercises, please bring any previous sketches, doodles, drawings or secondary source material such as photographs, or other found images to work from. 

Basic art materials will be provided but you may wish to bring your own sketchbook and your own art materials as the course progresses. 

Are there any additional costs?

There are no additional costs. Any additional art materials are to be provided at your own expense.
