About Improv Theatre for Young People (CSC257)

Do you enjoy playing games and the challenge of being creative in a team? Are you interested in gaining new skills and increasing your confidence? Then this is the course for you!

What will you learn on this course?

Discover the joy, freedom, and challenge of improv. Learn to be more creative and playful in this low-pressure, high-enjoyment class that cultivates a fun, friendly and supportive environment. You’ll learn the core skills of improvisation whilst improving confidence, public speaking and teamwork whilst having loads of fun.

Improv is about working together as a team with other improvisers to spontaneously create group stories, scenes & sketches. There’s no such thing as failure in improv!

This course is taught by Lucy Poulson, a Birmingham-based theatre practitioner and improvisor with extensive experience working with young people and their families on scripted and non-scripted drama.

Expect lots of games, movement and most of all, laughs!

Who is this course for?

This one-day workshop is for young people age 8 to 14 years old. It is open to all ability levels. We provide a learning support worker and all our staff are DBS checked. Parents are not expected to accompany children on the course.

The course is accessible for young people of all abilities. A parent or carer may assist their child if required but must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible.

Age ranges are set carefully to consider key age developments, materials being used, and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.

Do you need to bring anything?

Please note that lunch is not provided. Children will need to bring their own lunch to eat on a supervised one-hour break.

A water bottle for during the class would also be great and please wear clothes and shoes which are comfortable for moving around in
