About Introduction to Digital Drawing (DM05 Autumn)

Learn how to create your own digital drawings and artwork using tablet computers and dedicated software, taught by a contemporary digital artist.

What will you learn on this course?

You will be guided through a number of tutor-led demos and set tasks which introduce particular tips and techniques.

This course is taught by an experienced digital artist and educator and will cover:

  • How to get started using digital canvas, brushes and other key tools
  • Creative mark making, layering and shape work
  • Continuous line drawing
  • Creating effective pop art portraits
  • How art fundamentals like colour theory apply to digital compositions
  • Mixing analogue and digital techniques to create expressive compositions
  • Techniques inspired by Henri Matisse, Michael Craig Martin and David Hockney

You will work in MAC’s dedicated Media Studio, using specialist drawing tablets and iMAC computers. You will learn how to use Adobe Creative Suite software to effectively realise your creative ideas and projects. Sessions exploring traditional analogue techniques will be delivered in specialist art studios at key points during the term.

On completion of this course you will have developed your digital drawing skills and created a number of digital outcomes which can be printed any size up to A2 and framed as artwork around your home.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is aimed at beginners who have no previous experience, as well as unconfident drawers or those who have not drawn for some time. It is also suitable for more experienced traditional artists who are looking to apply their existing skills digitally. Full guidance will be given at all stages.
