About Introduction to Mosaics (ASC900)

Welcome to the world of mosaics! This one-day course will show you the fundamental principles of mosaic making providing you with the knowledge and confidence to create your own mosaics at home.

What will you learn on this course?

It can be daunting starting a new hobby but this course will show you just how easy it is!

You will choose to make either:

  • A wreath
  • A small terracotta pot which can be used for indoors or outdoors
  • A Bird Bath

Alternatively, you may bring an item from home to upcycle.

The course will cover how to:

  • Use tile cutters to cut glass and ceramic tiles
  • Understand the different adhesives required for an indoor or outdoor mosaic
  • How to apply the correct adhesives
  • How to grout your finished mosaics
  • Understand what bases you can use for indoor/outdoor mosaics
  • Where to source your materials

Your mosaics need 24 hours to dry so your tutor will grout your mosaics and have them ready for you within 7 days. You will be notified by the Sales and Events team as soon as they are ready for collection. Alternatively, you will be supplied with the grout and a link to a video on how to grout your mosaics at home.

Do you need to bring anything?

You don’t need to bring anything as all materials are provided. You may choose to bring images of mosaic decorations for inspiration but there will be images and examples for you to look at. You can bring an item of your own choosing to upcycle. Please ensure you are able to carry it safely into the studio and that it’s not over ambitious, as it would be nice for you to complete it on one day.
