About Introduction to Patchwork (ASC84)
Learn how to create beautiful patchwork in this two-day introductory course.
What will you learn on this course?
With a history that can be back to medieval times, patchwork has been a part of many indigenous cultures around the world.
Inspired by the exhibition Waste Age: What can design do?, on show at MAC, this course will give you the skills to support a sustainable approach to re-using and upcycling textiles.
Due to its sustainable and versatile nature, patchwork is still a popular art form and hobby and is still found in contemporary art across the world.
During this workshop, you will use an assortment of scrap fabrics in order to create a beautiful, unique piece of art. You will be guided through the process of piecing together different textures and patterns to make fun, new designs. You will also learn a variety of decorative techniques that you can incorporate into your design. Sewing machines are provided.
By the end of the weekend you will learn a new sustainable textile practice, all while being surrounded by a kind and creative community. You will leave with a completed patchwork artwork that you can use for decoration or a special handmade gift for a loved one.
