About Introduction to Poetry and Poetic Writing (WR109 Summer)

Would you like to read, explore, discuss and write poetry with like-minded people? Then this is the course for you!

What will you learn on this course?

During this six-week course you will be introduced to creative poetic writing, learn how to expand your own writing techniques and consider poetry in its widest form.

From poetic verse to poetry in prose and even song lyrics, this course will introduce you to the wonderful world of poetic writing.

During the course, you will:

  • Examine both new and old poetry, song lyrics and poetic writing
  • Produce poetic writing by learning some poetic techniques
  • Consider published poems/songs/poetic writing to gain a greater freedom in writing your own work
  • Learn to edit and develop own work by looking at published and non-published work

The tutor will help you build confidence and find enjoyment in writing poetry and you will be encouraged to embrace the writing process.

By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence to write in their own style, but with added ‘tools’ from the class to extend and continue.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to beginners and those with low confidence. No previous experience in creative writing is required as full instruction with be given.

At the heart of MAC is a focus on accessibility and inclusion. Please contact us to discuss your specific access needs. The room is wheelchair accessible. A support worker or carer may assist; carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending to provide support.

Do you need to bring anything?

Please bring a notebook and a pen along with any preferred writing material.
