About Introduction to Slip Cast Tableware (CE102 Autumn)

Slip casting is the easiest way to produce high quality, consistent ceramics and the perfect introduction to working with clay. Learn to use coloured clays and white stoneware to develop decorative techniques to produce items for your dining table.

What will you learn on this course?

On this course you will be taught to use pre-made slip casting moulds to produce a series of tableware items. Chose from a range of plates, bowls and mugs to create six high quality items of your choice over several weeks.

You will learn basic ceramics techniques including press and slip casting moulds, glazing techniques and the firing process. In addition, coloured clays are available for students to develop decorative techniques for surface decoration.

As you progress you will have the opportunity to also learn basic mould making techniques such as press moulds.

You will be encouraged to develop your own ideas and the tutor will teach you how to translate these ideas into your own unique designs. Our fully equipped pottery studio will give you access to various stoneware clays, glazes, coloured slips, all necessary tools and firing kilns.
