A black and white picture of a building, taken with a pinhole camera

About Make a Drinks Can Pinhole Camera (CSC187)

Create a DIY pinhole camera using recycled materials, then take and develop photographs to bring home!

What will you learn on this course?

Existing hundreds of years before modern cameras, a pinhole camera is a light proof device without a lens, just a small hole that allows light to pass inside.

Taught by an experienced photographer, on this one-day course you will:
•    Learn about analogue photography and how pinhole cameras work
•    Build your own pinhole camera out of recycled drinks cans
•    Take images of the park and MAC building with your pinhole camera
•    Discover how to develop images using sustainable materials

Children will be guided through the entire process, from creating the drinks can cameras to developing final photographs. You will learn the basics of traditional photography, create images using MAC and the surrounding area as a backdrop and mix your own developer fluid using easily available materials.

At the end of the workshop all participants will leave with a DIY camera they can re-use at home, as well as all the photos they created during the class.
