Muted mosaic tiles formed in a geometric pattern

About Roman Mosaics (ASC140)

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the ancient art of Roman mosaic-making in this elegant and inspiring workshop.

What will you learn on this course?

Perfect for beginners and those with some mosaic experience, this class offers the opportunity to refine your skills while creating a striking piece of art with enduring appeal.

Each participant will work from a wooden base and a carefully curated selection of premium Winkelmans mosaic tiles, renowned for their quality and beautifully textured, stone-like finish. The tiles come in muted, neutral tones evocative of the Roman era, chosen to complement the classical design you’ll be working from.

Following a detailed Roman-inspired pattern, you’ll be guided through the process of assembling your mosaic with an emphasis on tile placement along curves, a hallmark of ancient mosaic artistry. You’ll learn how to cut and shape tiles with precision using professional tools, and how to work with the design to create rhythm, flow, and timeless style.

Once your piece is complete, you’ll grout your work to add the final touch, bringing your mosaic to life with depth and polish.

Taught in a relaxed, supportive setting with expert instruction, this workshop is both a technical and creative deep dive, perfect for those looking to advance their skills while connecting with the rich traditions of classical art.

Create something truly unique, beautifully crafted, and steeped in history-one tile at a time.

Your mosaics need to be grouted and will need 24 hours to dry. Hopefully this will be completed in class but could be finished at home or left in our secure cages to dry and collect at a later date.
