
About Screenwriting for Improvers (ASC176)
Advance your screenwriting skills with this two-day short course. Learn how to improve and deepen ideas by exploring enhanced writing techniques.
What will you learn on this course?
This course is aimed at existing writers for the screen who are engaged in creating new work or developing existing projects.
Taught by a practicing screenwriter, you will look at the following techniques in depth:
• Film premise and ideas generation
• Pitching your work and receiving feedback
• Screenplay format and structure
• Visual storytelling
• Creative use of location and place
• Characterisation
• Short films, TV pilots and feature length
You will be taught enhanced practical writing exercises and techniques to use in your own writing, develop an understanding of how to become your own self-critic and appreciate that writing is a process for continued development.
Students will have the opportunity to share their work and receive feedback.
By the end of the two-day course everyone will have a short piece of their own writing which have been generated in response to tutor topics and techniques.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to improvers who some have previous experience in screenwriting. You may have completed a Screenwriting course at MAC, or elsewhere.
At the heart of MAC is a focus on accessibility and inclusion. Please contact us to discuss your specific access needs. The room is wheelchair accessible. A personal assistant or companion must book a complimentary ticket if attending to provide support.
Do you need to bring anything?
Please bring a laptop with pre-downloaded screenwriting software. We recommend free software packages such as CeltX or StudioBinder. You are also welcome to bring a notebook and a pen along with any preferred writing material.
