Seaweed Surface Decoration and Stitch (ASC97)
About Seaweed Surface Decoration and Stitch (ASC97)
Spend a day experimenting with several surface decoration techniques inspired by the design and texture of seaweed!
What will you learn on this course?
You will be introduced to several printing techniques including mono, gelli, screen and potato, to build up a lovely collection of pebbles and seaweed backgrounds.
You will learn from demonstrations by our artist tutor and handouts. There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment and develop your work.
After selecting your favourite piece, you will spend the afternoon applying surface decoration and embellishment using several techniques, in particular free machine embroidery and cords using materials which react to water or heat such as dissolvable plastic and Tyvek.
Learn to work with sheers on an embellisher machine, applique, machine and hand stitch and more.
You will look at textile artists who create similar work on this subject and take away a handout with tips on how to press your seaweed on your next visit to the coast.
At the end of the day, you will either have a finished piece to mount or hang, or several pieces and ideas to complete at home.
