About South Asian Motif Printmaking (ASC104)

Discover the art of printmaking through lino print inspired by repeat patterns and motif from the regions of South Asia. Learn a variety of intricate techniques and how to work with a printing press.

What will you learn on this course?

The course takes inspiration from fabric pieces in The Offbeat Sari exhibition on display at MAC. Tutor Haseebah Ali will support you to explore the patterns and designs typically found in sari fabric to create your own multi-colour reduction relief print.

Experiment with lino printing and pattern motif before creating a three-colour lino print, adding gilding techniques to complete the work. You will leave with a beautiful print, or small series, to take home for display.

You will be using a range of specialist equipment including lino tools, gilding sheets, print rollers, and working with oil and water-based inks. There will also be the opportunity to work with a small printing press.
