Helen Calcutt
Helen is a dance artist and choreographer with over 15 years’ experience sharing her practice across the U.K.
She has performed and created movement for international organisations including Autin Dance, Sonia Sabri Company, Apple, Def Motion, the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Midlands Actors Theatre, ME Dance, Vamos Cuba, and many others.
Within her teaching practice, she works both with professionals and new learners, and has created new work-in-education for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (acting), Poetry International (cross arts, festival), Wolverhampton University (cross-arts, literature), and teaches regularly for The Place (London), Tripspace (London), Brum Pro Class (Birmingham), the MAC (Birmingham) and others.
Helen has over a decade’s experience teaching Cuban Salsa and Rumba, formerly resident Cuban Salsa teacher at FABRIC, and trained through the London Cuban Salsa School. Also a poet & writer, Helen’s research into the dialogue between text and dance has been supported by Arts Council England, One Dance U.K., and the Birmingham REP. She is Artistic Director of dance-theatre company Beyond Words.
