Helen is a practising artist, specialising in oils and acrylic painting.

Helen has BA Honours and Masters degrees in Fine Art, alongside teaching qualifications in adult education.

As well as teaching, Helen provides painting demonstrations for art societies and on their YouTube channel, and write demonstration articles for The Artist magazine. Helen has exhibited widely and their paintings are in private collections in the UK, Europe and North America.

Helen has been an art tutor for over 20 years and regards teaching as complementary to their work as a painter. Helen teaches drawing and paintings skills across a wide range of mediums and techniques, and she enjoys introducing students to the work of contemporary and historical artists and movements. While all her teaching is based on termly themes, Helen encourage students to develop the work in their own way, and finds it very satisfying to see how students interpret and build on their initial project.

It is Helen's aim as a tutor to take a practical approach to art teaching. She seeks to demystify the technical skills of painting and drawing, and has many strategies to enable students to achieve their aims for their work. Helen enjoys building a good rapport with her students and many of them return to her classes year after year, and there is always more to discover.
