Mike Martin

Mike Martin is a specialist in watercolour painting and creates realistic portraiture in watercolours.

He is passionate about the subject and explores new methods and techniques to enhance and develop his work. He is inspired by the free flowing watercolour works of artists such as Anne Blockley, who excel when incorporating the full technicality and `looseness` of the use of watercolour, and the disciplined approach of `graphic ‘artists such as Ian Sidaway.

Mike has exhibited work in the West Midlands at Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and regularly sells work across many Birmingham galleries, including MAC’s shop.

He comes from a family of passionate creative people that have inspired his own creative explorations.

Mike is keen to share his knowledge and skill with course participants at MAC and encourage them to take up the subject with confidence.

Mike is also a keen potter, the decoration he applies to his functional wheel thrown ceramics are heavily influenced by his watercolour work.
