About BEDLAM 2026: Chai & Chat

Chai and Chat is a discussion series created by Sampad. Join Dr Hassan Hussain and Connor Elliman for an open and informal conversation exploring wellbeing in the arts, from the pressures and challenges of creative practice to the ways we can support ourselves and each other. Come along for a cup of chai, conversation and a chance to connect with others working across the arts.

Dr Hassan Hussain is a writer, researcher and cultural facilitator specialising in contemporary British theatre, performance and identity. His research explores the intersections of gender, sexuality, race and faith, with a particular focus on queer and South Asian representation in British theatre. Alongside his academic work, Hassan contributes to creative and cultural projects exploring queer identity, queer grief and South Asian representation, connecting research with contemporary theatre and performance practice.

Conor Elliman is an Engagement Lead at Pentabus Theatre, as well as a freelance community arts practitioner and movement artist. His practice centres on creating shared, body-led experiences within communities, with a particular interest in contemporary dance, movement and queer experiences. His work includes Baggage, a contemporary dance and community project exploring queer experiences in public spaces, which was presented at Chester Pride.

Presented by Sampad as part of the BEDLAM Arts & Mental Health Symposium, running Fri 6 and Sat 7 Nov 2026. Join us for talks, workshops, discussions and performances, all exploring the relationship between arts, creativity, mental health and wellbeing. BEDLAM is a partnership between Sampad, Birmingham Rep and Midlands Arts Centre.
