About Feminist Reading Group: Conversations on Ecofeminism

Sun 19 May 2024, 11am – 1pm | FREE, booking essential | Ages 16+

Embark on a journey into the intersection of ecology and feminism with Ecofeminism. Coined by feminist thinkers such as Françoise d’Eaubonne and Vandana Shiva, this term highlights the exploitation of both women and nature, often arguing that both are rooted in similar systems of power and control. This event offers a space to unravel the complexities of ecological and feminist issues, exploring their intersections and contemplating their impact.

Reading list

Please make an effort to read the essays listed below before the event. All of them can be easily accessed online through a simple search, or alternatively, you can find them in Tatiana Wolska's exhibition at MAC. While reading all the texts would be ideal, prioritise the first text on the list.

  1. Ecofeminism by Vandana Shiva and Maria Mies (Chapter 7: Homeless in the 'Global Village')
  2. Ecofeminism by Vandana Shiva and Maria Mies (Chapter 6: Who Made Nature Our Enemy?)

Organised with Gugan Gill from Artefact in connection with Tatiana Wolska: Leisure as Resistance exhibition. Wolska has designed the space with a strong emphasis on facilitating and promoting gatherings and discussions centred around critical topics such as the regeneration of natural resources, climate crisis or the concept of circular economy. Please bring any gently used clothes, books and spare seeds to contribute to the exhibition's swap shop.
