About Our Little Hour
Hailed as “an intensely moving new musical drama”, Our Little Hour tells the inspirational story of how Walter Tull - grandson of a Barbadian slave and orphaned at just eight years old - rose to prominence as the first black footballer to play at the highest level of the domestic game in the UK before achieving another historic breakthrough as the first man of his heritage to be commissioned as an Officer in the British Army.
Written by award winning playwright Dougie Blaxland and including 16 “hauntingly beautiful original songs Our Little Hour is a show “not to be missed”.
Brendan Batson and Chris Lewis will be joining us for a post-show discussion on Sat 28 Feb.
Brendan Batson is one of the legendary 1970's West Bromwich Albion trio of black players known as "The Three Degrees" (Laurie Cunnungham, Cyrille Regis & Brendan Batson). Chris Lewis is a Guyanan born international cricketing star and one of the first black cricketers to represent England. He played 85 times for England and was International Cricketer of the Year in 1992. Both Brendan and Chris see the late, great Walter Tull as a pioneer and hero who made it possible for subsequent generations of sportsmen and women who share his heritage to "reach for the stars"!
A powerful and very moving account of Tull’s life.
