About Poetry After Chai

After two successful years, Poetry After Chai returns to the MAC as part of Bangla Month 2026.

Join us for an evening of poetry, conversation and storytelling, celebrating the richness of Bangla culture through the power of the spoken word.

We're delighted to welcome Saida Chowdhury as this year's host. A dynamic voice on the spoken word scene, Saida will guide us through an evening of powerful performances, inspiring poetry and meaningful conversation.

A much-loved feature of Poetry After Chai, our Night Bazaar returns, showcasing a selection of artisan stalls featuring handmade crafts, jewellery, artwork and unique gifts. Enjoy Chai & Chat while exploring the bazaar, with a live set from DJ Hussy providing the soundtrack to the evening as guests arrive and connect before the poetry performances begin.

Our popular Open Mic returns, offering a platform for fresh voices to share their work. A highlight of this year’s programme is a special reading and Q&A with Somnath Batabyal, who will share an extract from his new book, Red River, followed by a conversation exploring the themes behind the novel and his writing journey.

Whether you're a lifelong poetry enthusiast or discovering spoken word for the first time, Poetry After Chai promises an evening of inspiring performances, conversation and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
