About The Influence Project
An exhibition by Co-creators Alexis Chabala and Lorayne Crawford.
The Influence Project celebrates the impact that leading Black musicians have had on contemporary sound and culture.
The exhibition chronicles pioneering voices of the mid to late 20th century music scene and their impact on music, from direct forms of sampling, to the role of mentors and role models, exploring the range of ways these musical innovators have influenced today’s artists creatively, socially and politically.
Creative partners, photographer Alexis Chabala and curator Lorayne Crawford, approached artists who had strong influences in their life, passionate about giving their heroes a visual platform and showing the intricate connections between them. The exhibition at MAC featured never-before-seen works.
The Influence Project investigates connections between these established pioneers and emerging artists, reaching across time to shape the sounds that we hear today.
