About Hardeep Pandhal: Saag and Fish Fingers
Pandhal creates mythical narratives that explore the complexities of contemporary culture, class, racial violence and power. Central to the exhibition is the Pintooverse, a fictional world populated by characters such as Sepoy Man, a deserted colonial soldier navigating self-realisation and the Gutter People, spellbound creatures who exist on the margins.
Drawing on video games, comics, cultural theory and his lived experience, this narrative takes form across large-scale paintings, drawings, textiles and installation. In these, the whimsical and serious compete for attention, whilst exploring the transformative forces of migration, colonialism and cultural assimilation. Hardeep Pandhal’s Saag and Fish Fingers is the first solo exhibition in his hometown.
