REFRAME: Inspire Schools Programme
Lead Artist-Facilitator Opportunity

Paid Opportunity | C. £10,000 (40-45 days)

The REFRAME: Inspire Schools Project gets students working collaboratively with Artist-Facilitators to produce a series of digital ‘zines’, weaving graphic design, visual art and digital skills to create their own digital material, supported by Apple technology. This project aims to inspire young people to take a creative subject for GCSE.

This project is part of a bigger partnership between Midlands Arts Centre (Birmingham), Southbank Centre (London) and Factory International (Manchester) that develops creative digital programmes for secondary school students.

We are looking for an experienced artist-facilitator able to empower young people to harness their own creativity through a series of school workshops.

About the project

  • The project is free for schools to take part in and will take place from Autumn 2025.
  • Over the course of 5 full day workshops, seven participating schools will create their own zine, supported by Apple kit and introducing the principles of graphic design.
  • The class zine should showcase a variety of art form such as poetry, illustration and creative writing.
  • Each zine will be a group project, developing skills in literacy, design, IT and citizenship.
  • Students will get to use iPads and design software to create their zines.
  • CPD for teachers, along with resource materials, will be available.

The lead Artist-Facilitator will take their creative brief from Southbank Centre’s 75th anniversary year.

The role will

  • Research and plan an exciting set of workshops inspired by the brief.
  • Deliver a schedule of workshops at schools in the Autumn and Spring term 25/26 with one Year 8/9 class of young people from each school. Each class will have five full day of workshops working with the schools’ timetable.
  • Ensure that the students create a collaborative class zine, exploring the set themes.
  • Ensure that all zines are collated together to form an online exhibition.
  • Working with MAC staff, deliver a celebration event at MAC for the students to attend in Spring 2026.

Please note this role will be subject to a DBS check.
