About Eleanor The Great
Scarlett Johansson’s funny and poignant directorial debut packs a punch in this charming and accomplished portrait of Jewish family life, starring Oscar-nominated comedian/actress, June Squibb, as Eleanor Morgenstein.
After her best friend unexpectedly dies, Eleanor moves back to New York, to live with her daughter (Jessica Hecht). Spending her days wandering around Manhattan, she inadvertently attends a Holocaust survivors’ group, and makes an impromptu speech that dramatically changes the course of her life.
Johansson’s sensitive exploration of intergenerational friendship and grief features a sparkling comedic performance from Squibb, as well as her superb supporting actors - Chiwetel Ejiofor, Erin Kellyman, and Rita Zohar.
