A selection of animated shorts from the SWANA region exploring displacement, home and belonging, preceded by an animation workshop looking at themes of home and displacement.
 
11.30am - Animation workshop (Foyle Studio)

Waheeda will be making zoetrope spinning tops! Let’s get back to the basics of animation, and explore what home, belonging and displacement means to each person through abstract shapes and imagery to create the illusion of movement.

Waheeda Rahman-Mair is a multidisciplinary artist and animator, who focuses her work on exploring cultural identity and celebrating diversity through her chosen mediums. She and her husband Chris also run an animation studio called The Treehouse, where they’ve worked for Warner Bros, Nat Geo, NHS, and BFI creating 2D/3D animations as well as dabbling in VFX.

12.45pm - Short animated films (Foyle Studio)

In collaboration with Sheffield DocFest.

Falasteen On Film is a community cinema group that showcases a wide breadth of Palestinian cinema across Birmingham. Join them this Jan and Feb for a selection of shorts and features, each screening paired with drop-in workshops and priced as Pay What You Choose.

Duration includes trailers, adverts and any Q&A/panel. For events such as NT Live, Colour Box and Reel & Meal there will be minimal advertising. We do not admit latecomers after the main feature has started and we have a limited food & drink policy.
