About Kaleidoscope: Messed Up, Missed Off!
Were you the lucky customer who bought a DVD of a classic TV series to then find that it was incomplete? Perhaps an episode was found after it was released or maybe the DVD producer didn’t do their research and find all the assets or extras. Today, Kaleidoscope shows you a range of materials that should be out on DVD but were missed off the official release.
10am: Never Mind the Quality - All That Glitters Is Not Gelt
An ABC produced episode of a sitcom about Jewish tailors. Thames TV say they could no longer find this episode in their vaults, so it was missed off the DVD release.
10.30am: Paul Temple - Mystery in Munich Episode 1
Paul Temple were German co-productions and the Germans retain German-only soundtracks. Here Kaleidoscope has matched the pictures to an English soundtrack that Kaleidoscope acquired when it bought an English 16mm print of this episode.
11.25am: Greatest Hits 1968
The brilliant Central TV music and history series focuses on 1968. Previously only part of the feature on The Prisoner was released on DVD - here you can watch it in full as well as other highlights of 1968.
11.55am: Jokers Wild - All Star Comedy Carnival 196
Midday: Bod - Bod and the Cake
12.10pm: Weekend Live 21 Years of LWT - Upstairs Downstairs live reunion
12.25pm: Captain Pugwash - A New Ship
The colour series is all on DVD, but none of the black and white editions are.
12.35pm: Lunch
1pm: Crossroads - film sequences from 1960s episodes
Kaleidoscope unearthed these many years ago and why they weren’t on the Crossroads DVD is anybody’s guess. Here they are presented in their reconstructed format with sound effects added, in chronological order.
1.30pm: Crossroads (22/12/77)
Found at the BFI National Archive after the DVD release.
2pm: A Royal Gala - The Power and the Glory.
2.30pm: TBC
3.15pm: Afternoon Tea
3.30pm: A Golden Gala
A special 1976 mini episode of The Rag Trade performed on stage.
3.40pm: Frost On….
A double bill of LWT editions not available on DVD because they were found after the release (Frost on Friday - 11.10.1968 / Frost on Saturday - 27.9.1969)
4.50pm Stress (1971)
Join the Scaffold to discuss stress. This edition contains footage from Doomwatch: Survival Code found after the DVD release.
