An elderly man with long white hair and a full white beard stands in a book-lined study, reading a small open book he holds in both hands. He wears a white shirt under a gray cardigan and long gray robe. The warm, dimly lit room features a bookshelf packed with leather-bound volumes, an antique wall clock, ornate gold-patterned wallpaper, a black articulated desk lamp, a globe, and stacks of papers and books on a cluttered desk in the foreground.

About & Sons

Bill Nighy heads a stellar cast, which includes Imelda Staunton, Johnny Flynn and George MacKay, playing a Lear-like figure with a reputation for leaving destruction in his wake.

Pablo Trapero’s English-language debut, a taut family drama adapted by Sarah Polley from David Gilbert’s eponymous novel, finds reclusive novelist A.N. Dyer summoning his two middle-aged sons to his secluded home to share some important information. The unexpected consequences of the encounter ripples outwards, unravelling relationships and leading us towards a startling revelation.
