When their indie debut feature breaks out at Sundance Film Festival, queer director Kris (Hannah Einbinder) is approached to helm the latest entry in the Camp Miasma franchise – a long-running slasher series that has problematic origins. Kris is up for refreshing and reclaiming the material, but is determined that the key to its success will be bringing back Billy Preston (Gillian Anderson), the original Camp Miasma final girl.
Similar to their previous films We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, Schoenbrun’s latest feature demonstrates a remarkable sensitivity to our relationships with new media and the intimate ways it shapes our identity. It is also a visual feast, popping with nostalgia and more than a small helping of gore.
