A black and white photograph of a young man standing on a sandy beach, one hand resting on a wooden railing or structure. He wears an open, loose-fitting striped shirt over a vest and high-waisted trousers with a belt. His hair is slightly tousled. The sea with breaking waves is visible behind him, and the sky is hazy. The composition is framed by diagonal wooden beams in the foreground.

About The Stranger

Albert Camus’s classic of existential literature (L'Étranger), which follows an apathetic Frenchman as his daily routine is disrupted by his mother's passing and a fateful event on a beach, is brought thrillingly to life in the latest from French master François Ozon (8 Women, Swimming Pool).

Ozon brings a contemporary gaze to this enigmatic story of disaffection in 1930s colonial Algeria, capturing a charged society on the boil.
