Two older bearded men in period medieval costume stand next to each other, the man on the right wearing white gloves, a long dark coat and a dark hat. We can see children in the background dressed in medieval clothing.

About Witchfinder General

With the English Civil War raging, former lawyer Matthew Hopkins leaves a trail of torture in his wake as he travels the English countryside. His ultimate aim? To cleanse it of the activities of 'witches' and their accomplices.

Witchfinder General is the last of the three horror films directed by Michael Reeves, the young British talent who died at the age of 25. Filmed on location in East Anglia, the film was criticized for its extreme violence on release, but is now regarded as one of the finest horror films ever produced in the UK.
