This is a joyful photograph showing a group of Palestinian children and young people gathered together, appearing to be in good spirits. In the front row, several younger boys are smiling at the camera, with one wearing a light-colored sweatshirt and another in a gray shirt. There is a grey bird sitting on the shoulder of the central child. Behind them stand older youths in casual clothing including hoodies and jackets.

About With Hasan In Gaza

Kamal Aljafari returns with a poignant reimagining of Palestinian history, preceded by a letter writing workshop led by Youth Front For Palestine and a light Iftar provided by Bayt Al Yemeni.

4.30pm - Letter writing workshop + Iftar (Pinsent Masons 1)

5.45pm - With Hasan In Gaza (Cinema)
Unearthed from MiniDV tapes filmed during Kamal Aljafari’s 2001 visit to Gaza – his first time behind the camera – the film traces his search for a former prison-mate. Guided by Hasan, a local tour guide whose fate remains uncertain, the footage captures a land and its people suspended between the past and a ruptured present – their everyday lives now irreversibly changed.

Falasteen On Film is a community cinema group that showcases a wide breadth of Palestinian cinema across Birmingham. Join them this Jan and Feb for a selection of subtitled shorts and features, each screening paired with drop-in workshops and priced as Pay What You Choose.
