Vibrant material with stitching, with circular mirrors in the fabric

About Inspired by India: Kantha Stitched Covers (ASC116)

Create a Kantha stitched iPad cover or similar item using recycled saris with surface decoration inspired by the rich colours and designs from India.

What will you learn on this course?

Inspired by MAC’s exhibition The Offbeat Sari, give recycled fabrics a new purpose, while expanding your textile techniques.

Taking inspiration from traditional paisley designs and the good luck door hanging known as a Toran (similar to bunting), learners will print, decorate and stitch a simple bag to hold an iPad or a similar item.

Adorned with Indian elephants, shisha mirrors, tassels and cords learners will create their own unique piece inspired by India.

You’ll learn new techniques including:

  • Printing
  • Machine and hand stitching
  • Attaching shisha mirrors
  • Handmade machine cords
  • Adding tassels

You will aim to have a completed item by the end of the workshop.
