About Introduction to Digital Music & Music Production (DM103 Spring)

If you love electronic music, rap, trap, EDM and ambient then this is the course for you. Led by a professional digital music artist and producer you will learn how to create your own compositions and digital soundscapes through midi, virtual instruments, sampling, mixing, and mastering.

What will you learn on this course?

This course is ideal for the budding digital music producer or musician interested in learning how to make music digitally, working with industry software to acquire the skills to successfully mix and produce music.

You will gain an understanding of how music is created, assembled, and produced and have a wider appreciation of specialist music software.

You will work with the latest iMacs and learn Logic Pro X software and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

The course covers:

· Creating basic arrangements

· Understanding song structures

· Recording MIDI

· MIDI programming

· Recording instruments and sounds

· Experimenting with different microphones and equipment

· Creating beats and sounds from scratch

· Music editing and mixing

· Advanced audio editing

· Software Automation

· Mixing and Mastering

Each week the tutor will set tasks and small projects designed to incorporate the new skills that you have learned, such as how to create a piece of music from a poem or spoken word piece, create an experimental piece by recording everyday sounds, and also learn how to re-mix music.

Participants will leave understanding how music is created, assembled and produced and have a wider appreciation of specialist music software.

As well as 1-2-1 support, at the end of each lesson you will listen to everyone’s work and share feedback and comments.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. If you are aged 16+ you may be able to enroll on the course if you have a guardian or parent with you. Please contact us to discuss your particular needs.

This course is designed for both beginners and improvers, those who would like an introduction to digital music making and to those looking to improve their skills. You don’t need any previous experience or musical knowledge as full instruction and guidance is given.

At the heart of MAC is a focus on accessibility and inclusion. Please contact us to discuss your specific access needs. You need to be able to use a computer. The room is wheelchair accessible and a carer or support worker may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support.
