About Learn to Tango Improvers (VA116 Spring)

Deepen your love of Argentine Tango as you extend your learning of this authentic social dance.

What will you learn on this course?

Argentine Tango is a social dance which can be intimate, fun, romantic, and also help with your fitness, balance, coordination and memory.

This fun course will build on several aspects of the art of Argentine Tango. You will continue to refine and learn about the basic 8 steps that characterise the dance, including Giros (turning movement), Ochos (figures of eight), body alignment and disassociation. You will continue to learn how to improvise and change routines depending on floor space, music, and other variables so that you can dance anywhere through your extended Tango vocabulary in this series!

This tango course syllabus builds on our beginners Tango course:

  • An introduction to 3 styles within a tango dance – Tango, Tango Waltz, and Milonga
  • Embrace – How to hold and connect with your partner and develop good posture
  • Walking – How to walk in tango and energy, style and precision
  • Timing – How to dance in time with the music of Tango, Tango Waltz, and Milonga
  • Tango Etiquette – Learn the secrets of surviving a social tango night! How to be open and welcoming, how to ask for a dance, and how not to be nervous and be confident on the dance floor
  • Improvisation – The most important skill in social Tango dance. Chop and change routines based on floor space, changes in music tempo, and other variables

This course is an excellent opportunity to socialise and meet new people in your community who share your passion for dance.

Based on feedback from our learners, our Yoga, Tai Chi and Dance courses are now sold as 6 weeks blocks. We hope this provides participants greater access to classes that support physical and mental wellbeing.
