What will you learn on this course?
Experienced dance teachers from Birmingham Tango Oso will guide you through the basics of Tango dancing, perfect for your first experience of this dance form.
Argentine Tango is a social dance which can be intimate, fun, romantic, and also help with your fitness, balance, coordination and memory.
This taster class will introduce you to several aspects of the art of Argentine Tango. You will learn the 8 movements that characterise the dance which will get you dancing socially!
This session will cover:
● An introduction to 3 styles within a tango dance – Tango, Tango Vals, and Milonga
● Embrace – How to hold and connect with your partner and develop good posture
● Walking – How to walk in tango with energy, style and precision
● Timing – How to dance in time with the music of Tango, Tango Vals, and Milonga
● Tango Etiquette – Learn the secrets of surviving a social tango night! How to be open and welcoming, how to ask for a dance, and how to be confident on the dance floor
● Improvisation – The most important skill in social Tango dance. Adapt routines based on floor space, dancer experience and changes in music tempo to dance anywhere!
This taster class is an excellent opportunity to socialise and meet new people in your community who share your passion for dance. Progress to the full 12-week Learn to Tango course if you get hooked!
Who is this course for?
This course is for adults aged 18+ years at all levels. No prior dancing experience is required.
At the heart of MAC is a focus on accessibility and inclusion. Please contact us to discuss your specific access needs. The room is wheelchair accessible. A support worker or carer may assist; carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending to provide support.
Do you need to bring anything?
Please bring water and wear comfortable clothes. Smooth soled shoes with a small heel are ideal, trainers are not appropriate for these classes.
