About Pottery Club (Summer)

Join the Pottery Club and explore the world of clay! Learn all about different hand-building techniques and imaginative ways to decorate your clay creations.

What will you learn on this course?

The pottery club is a fun and supportive environment, which will encourage children’s creativity and imagination. The course provides an exciting introduction to ceramics where children get to explore the medium of clay with a group of their peers.

Children will learn different hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building, and sculpting clay. They will then add decoration using a variety of glaze techniques. Learners will be encouraged to review and refine their work to produce finished ceramic pieces that are unique and of a high standard.

The tutor will demonstrate each different technique, encouraging children to apply the techniques in the creation of their own works. Further demonstrations and one-to-one support will be given as required. Support and advice will be tailored to each child, according to their individual ability. Learners will be able to work at their own pace.

A glossary of technical terms along with an overview of the taught content will be provided. In addition to practical making skills, the tutor will use visual resources to provide an understanding of both historical and contemporary ceramics works.

By the end of this course, participants will have learned how to use all of the equipment in MAC’s specialist ceramic studio safely and correctly. They will have learned a range of techniques, made high quality ceramics pieces to their own design, and have the confidence to continue working in ceramics.
