About Textiles for Homewares (ASC75)

Create functional items for use in the home from textiles during this three-day course.

What will you learn on this course?

This course offers a practical introduction to using textiles to create functional items. It is surprising what everyday items can be produced from textiles hand or simple sewing machine!

Learn different textiles techniques and processes such as embroidery, weaving, printing and manipulation of fabric.

You will be encouraged to plan your piece and will experience a variety of techniques in your learning experience. You will experiment and produce work with suggested ideas from the Tutor.

You’ll end the course with at least one main finished piece such as a desk tidy, pan holder or plant holder, and a number of other samples for use in other projects.

Who is this course for?

This course is for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to beginners and improvers. It is suitable for people who are completely new to textiles, and for those who want to extend and refine their techniques.

At the heart of MAC is a focus on accessibility and inclusion. Please contact us to discuss your specific access needs. Participants will need to be able to control a sewing machine, use pins, scissors and an iron. Dexterity in hands essential. The course requires sitting at a machine or leaning over a table to cut fabric. The room is wheelchair accessible. A personal assistant or companion must book a complimentary ticket if attending to provide support.

Do you need to bring anything?

Bring along any pre-loved fabric you would like to use in your pieces though material will also be provided. You should wear old clothes and bring an apron to work in.
