About Zine, Collage and Print for Young People (YP09 Autumn)
Ignite your DIY spirit by learning to produce mini, self-made publications on topics of your choice. Learn several forms of collage and printmaking to enhance your final piece.
What you will learn on this course?
This course offers a broad introduction to collage and printmaking as techniques for creating zines. We will explore the impact that DIY publications and zine culture have had on activism and socio-political movements. Zines provide a non-commercial platform for marginalised and underrepresented communities to share their personal experiences.
This class will equip students with a platform to share their own thoughts, feelings and interests.
The course will have a structured format allowing for clear progression and layering of skills, working towards a final completed zine. Workshops will teach students individual image making techniques through the medium of print making, collage and drawing. Project development will allow students to work on their own zines, building a portfolio of assets and materials that can be used in a final zine on whatever subject they choose.
The course will cover the following areas:
• Introduction to zine folding and history
• Collage techniques including Dada, mosaic and scrap-book style
• Printmaking techniques including lino and mono print
• Zine layouts and planning
