About Bedlam: "Can We Talk?"
Can We Talk? is a powerful new theatre production exploring the growing relationship between young people, artificial intelligence and mental health. Set within a British South Asian family, the play examines what happens when a teenager begins turning to AI for emotional support instead of the people who care about them, raising important questions about connection, communication and the future of human relationships.
Written by Rochi Rampal and developed through consultation with young people, parents, headteachers and mental health professionals, Can We Talk? draws on lived experiences and contemporary conversations around AI, wellbeing and digital relationships. Directed by Bhavik Parmar,, the production invites audiences to reflect, discuss and debate in open conversation.

Presented as part of the BEDLAM Arts & Mental Health Symposium, running Fri 6 and Sat 7 Nov 2026. Join us for talks, workshops, discussions and performances, all exploring the relationship between arts, creativity, mental health and wellbeing. BEDLAM is a partnership between Sampad, Birmingham Rep and Midlands Arts Centre.
