Discover the rich artistic heritage of Pakistan through two inspiring, hands-on workshops led by artists Sameea Rahat and Shameem Akhtar.

Explore the beauty of Islamic calligraphy with accomplished Arabic calligrapher Sameea Rahat. Following a lively introduction to its history and significance, participants will experiment with Arabic letterforms using brushes, paint and colour to create their own unique artwork. Throughout the festival weekend, visitors can also view a selection of Sameea’s inspiring calligraphy celebrating the beauty and heritage of Islamic art.

Celebrate the vibrant tradition of Pakistani Truck Art with Birmingham artist Shameem Akhtar by transforming a wooden cricket bat into a colourful work of folk art. Inspired by the bold floral motifs, intricate patterns and joyful colours that adorn Pakistan’s iconic trucks, participants will use acrylic paint markers to create their own unique designs. Wooden bats are provided, or you can bring along your own to personalise.

Suitable for children aged 4+, young people, families and adults. All materials are provided (unless bringing your own cricket bat). Simply drop in, get creative and take home your own unique artwork.

This version places the emphasis on Pakistani Truck Art rather than the cricket bat itself, making the two workshops feel more balanced as celebrations of Pakistan’s artistic and cultural heritage.
