Sounds of Solidarity – A Celebration of Refugee Week
Join us in the Outdoor Theatre for Sounds of Solidarity, a vibrant, free event celebrating the power of music and culture to unite communities.
Presented by Variations, this event brings you an exciting mix of live bands, DJs, and workshops, featuring world rhythms, percussive grooves, and global melodies that will get you moving. Alongside the music, enjoy arts-based participatory workshops for both adults and children, exploring themes of heritage, identity, and cultural expression through creativity and storytelling.

Reggaerobics & Calypso Fitness
Reggaerobics & Calypso Fitness is an uplifting, low impact dance class, designed to get your feet moving and your face smiling to the sounds of musical sunshine. Enjoy Calypso, Mento, Reggae & Rocksteady classics and hidden gems, with Selector Shelley and 'Kelly-Robix' Howell.
TONi
As a DJ, TONi crafts immersive musical experiences that deeply connect with her audience. Equally skilled on vinyl and digital formats, her sets are kaleidoscopic explorations of sound—flowing effortlessly from jazz, house, broken beats, disco, and percussive grooves.
Daholl Kurdish Band
Daholl Kurdish Band is an energetic blend of Kurdish and Middle Eastern music, which ranges from traditional to contemporary popular dance music. Led by dynamic violinist, percussionist and dance teacher Zirak Hamad.
Sponge
Birmingham's bold and energetic alternative DIY drumming troupe. We create a wall of sound fusing rhythms and grooves from around the world. We get into crowds to share the sound and physical presence of the drums to inspire and move audiences.
Love Hertz
Love Hertz is a project and collective set up by Shelley Atkinson, from Leaf Creative Arts CIC, that explores the power of music, life soundtracks and universally uplifting sounds for humans. Expect some global sounds of unity and solidarity, fit for the occasion!
Sharonjit
Introducing Sharonjit, birmingham-based creative powerhouse whose mixed-media magic spans illustration, photography, film, performance, writing, 3D creations, and workshop facilitation. Her work dives into the beautiful absurdity of the human experience — often through the wonderfully weird lens of pigeons and other birds.
Millicent
Millicent Chapanda (Milli Chapanda) is a proud cultural artist with a vibrant mission to bring the lived experience of women in Zimbabwe onto international world music stages.
Mafoya
Mafoya loves words: writing, singing, reading, and making poetry with them. He has shared his love of words at events including the Six Towns Carnival, Africanize, and several open mics across Birmingham.
Dee'Cleo
Dee'Cleo, a Birmingham based DJ whose musical exploration transcends the boundaries of eras, cultures, and genres. Inspired by the magic that lies in between deeply nourishing rhythms to unwind & galvanising beats to uplift a crowd, in her sets she guides you through the limitless possibilities of sound.
Dean 'Sunshine' Smith
A true DJ’s DJ, Dean Sunshine Smith has been lighting up dancefloors for 35+ years. From legends like Frankie Knuckles, Giles Peterson & DJ Harvey to new-gen heroes like Floating Points, he’s shared the stage with the best.
