The Good Vibrations Sounds of Sunshine Carnival is an uplifting celebration of Caribbean culture, with a tropical twist of Brazilian! Join us for Steel Pans, Samba and more, as we celebrate global sounds of sunshine, in the heart of MAC Birmingham
It is a family-friendly, dementia-friendly, carer-friendly event, created by Leaf Creative Arts CIC and is an offshoot and celebration of their ongoing work focusing on harnessing the power and impact of music on everyday wellbeing. It includes:
- A short performance / showcase of The Good Vibrations Dementia-Friendly Steelband, led by Norman 'Panmaestro' Stewart, the first of its kind, as far as we are aware, in the UK. This is also a chance to bring steel pans' back to MAC', its Spiritual Brummie homeland, and pay homage to Roy Jacob, who passed on the oral history of this artform from Trinidad to the heart of the UK, forming the legendary 'Panmaestros' at MAC in 1980.
- Live music from Oya Batucada Samba Band, led by Mestre John Richards, who also have a legacy entwined in MAC Birmingham, Oya's original stomping ground.
- Reggaerobics & Calypso Fitness - gentle exercise class taking you on a musical journey from Goombay & Mento to what we now know as 'Reggae' & Dancehall.
- Performances from Samba Dance Birmingham
- Rocksteady & Dominoes Tournament
