Emmy Bridgwater and Birmingham Surrealists

Celebrating Birmingham-born surrealist Emmy Bridgwater (1906–1999), this major exhibition brings together paintings, drawings, collages and poetry spanning over six decades of her life. A pivotal figure in British Surrealism and the Birmingham Surrealist Group, Bridgwater’s artworks are presented alongside work by contemporary artists Laura Footes and Paloma Proudfoot. Their vital inclusion offers fresh perspectives on Bridgwater’s pioneering legacy and the distinct role of women’s voices within surrealist expression.
