Many Stories: Figurative Painting by South Asian British Women Artists

Many Stories brings together seventeen British and UK-based women artists from the South Asian diaspora, spanning generations and different stages of their careers.

The exhibition celebrates the diversity of figurative painting today, exploring themes of identity, culture, family, place and belonging. Through landscapes, portraits and distinctive approaches to paint and process, the artists reflect on their experiences of living between and across cultures.

At a time of renewed interest in figurative painting in Britain, Many Stories highlights the contribution of South Asian British women artists, whose work remains under-represented in the visual arts.

Curated by Jai Chuhan, Jasmir Creed, Matt Price and Roma Piotrowska, the exhibition is a touring partnership between Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, London, and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. The exhibition is accompanied by a public programme and catalogue.
