Call for visual artists and poets to speak at Motherhood Symposium at MAC

Submit your proposals to join the powerful event, Picturing the Unseen: Grief & Labour in and out of Motherhood Symposium, which aims to shed light on the unseen aspects of (m)otherhood.

We are inviting visual artists and poets to volunteer to deliver an engaging 5-minute Pecha Kucha-style presentation at this upcoming symposium. The event will focus on themes surrounding the unseen aspects of motherhood, including experiences of struggling to conceive, infertility, childlessness not by choice, maternal grief and caring for chronically ill children.

The content of these presentations must address the Symposium's specific themes.

Presentation requirements:

• Style: Pecha Kucha (10 slides, 30 seconds each, auto-timed)
• Content: Recent work (ideally within the past two years) addressing the symposium's themes
• Proposal submission: Approximately 250 words and 3 images
• Event date: 12 September 2024
• Location: MAC, Birmingham

Timeframe:

• Proposal Deadline: 15 July
• Speakers Announced: 29 July
• Presentation Submission: 27 August
