National Saturday Club and Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) are thrilled to continue a free programme designed to empower the next generation.

Applications are now open for the 2026/27 Film and Screen Saturday Club at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), which is offering an opportunity for local young people ages 13 - 16 to explore filmmaking, develop creative digital media skills and discover potential careers in the screen industries - completely free of charge.

"I've definitely become more confident at the club and it has made me more collaborative."

Returning for its second term, the Film and Screen Saturday Club offers an inspiring programme of practical filmmaking activities led by a local filmmaker in a friendly, supportive environment. Participants will gain hands-on experience while developing creative confidence, storytelling, collaboration and technical skills.

The programme begins on Saturday 26 September with a family welcome morning, giving young people and their families the chance to meet the tutors, explore MAC's filmmaking facilities – including the dedicated Media Studio and Cinema – and find out more about the year ahead.

Throughout the programme, club members will create short films and collaborate on a group film to be showcased in MAC's Community Gallery. This year, projects will take inspiration from myths, heroes and legends, connecting with a major exhibition at MAC that will be taking place in summer 2027. Using the filmmaking concept of The Hero's Journey as a starting point, participants will explore this enduring storytelling framework through their own original work.

Alongside weekly sessions at MAC, club members will also take part in National Saturday Club events, including masterclasses with leading industry professionals and the national summer show, where work from Saturday Clubs across the UK is exhibited in a public exhibition – all at no cost.
