About 50 Years Of Gangsters + Q&A

Gangsters was a TV drama like no other. Burrowing into the dark underbelly of the Birmingham crime scene, it mixed Shakespearian soliloquy with comic strip violence.

Brutal, funny and surreal, it blazed a trail for more regional and ethnically diverse drama, and is a prime example of how under David Rose, Birmingham production house Pebble Mill produced some of the most vital and enduring television ever made.
This event will bring together some of Gangsters’ main production members as well as exploring why Birmingham has been such an important regional hub for British television.

Schedule

3pm: Discussion on Midlands TV programme making with Jenny Brewer (David Rose's PA) and TV historians Jon Dear and John Williams.

3.30pm: Screening of two episodes of Gangsters: Incident 1 (1976) and Chapter Six, East of the Equator (1978).

5.30pm: Q&A with Chrissie Cocks (Location Manager for Gangsters) and Peter Ansorge (Script Editor for Gangsters and former Channel 4 Head of Drama)
