About Bada Bing! 25 Years Of The Sopranos

When a series is described as having ‘changed television’, such statements are usually best taken with a pinch of salt. Not so when it comes to HBO’s The Sopranos.

Premiering in 1999, David Chase’s intricate, melancholy drama about a New Jersey mob boss juggling family life with criminal activity set the rule book on fire, featuring a sympathetic murderer in the lead role, bringing shades of grey to every character on screen and ensuring no storylines ever got wrapped up in a nice pretty bow – which extended to the final moments of the very final episode. There had been other hard-hitting series before it, including HBO prison drama Oz, but nothing with the complexity and sheer storytelling gall of The Sopranos.

For this 25th anniversary celebration, Whatever Pays The Rent will be hosting an interactive Sopranos quiz in MAC’s Kiln café featuring a number of creative rounds and the chance to win some Sopranos goodies. Once a winner has been declared, the audience will then watch a classic episode from the series’ critically acclaimed run in MAC’s cinema.
